COMPETE AT PIONEER DAYS IN KALIDA FOR $1750.00 CASH

At the upcoming Pioneer Days festival in Kalida, Ohio there will be $1750.00 of cash prizes to compete for in four different contests.

The Battle of the Bands on Thursday, September 4th will feature up to eight local bands competing for the cash.  The Battle of the Bands winner will  be featured on  a future edition of X-107.5’s popular “Loud and Local” program.

On Saturday of Pioneer, the fourth annual Beer Tray Relay will take place.  Fashioned after the Beer Tray Relay held at the Minster Oktoberfest, local teams, as well as a team from Minster will compete in this fun event.  Get a team of four together to compete for cash and bragging rights for the year.  In addition to the Cash prizes, there will be a traveling trophy awarded to the winner.  Local restaurants and bars, as well as individual teams are invited to compete.

Sunday, September 7th will feature two more contests at Pioneer Days.  After the annual parade, the always fun Karaoke contest will take place in the Pavilion area.  Also, on Sunday will be the popular Chicken Wing Challenge.  Restaurants, as well as individual teams are invited to compete.  Even if you don’t want to compete in barbequing wings, you will certainly want to come and test the wings and vote for your personal favorite.

BASKETBALL SHOOTOUT FOR GRADES 4-7 AT PIONEER DAYS

The popular Pioneer Days Basketball Shootout will again take place at this year’s Pioneer Days festival.  This is a timed shooting event to test the shooting skills of children in grades 4-7.  Every participant will receive a FREE Hamburger & Pop, compliments of Kalida St. Michael Holy Name Society.  The event will be held on the street in front of the Kalida Fire Station at 6:30 pm on Thursday September 4th.  Contact Rick Kortokrax at 419-532-2023 to register.  Complete details can be found at www.pioneerdays.com.

Otterbacher Shows returns to Pioneer Days will a full array of rides and amusements for all ages.  Jim and Janet Otterbacher take great pride in offering safe and exciting amusement rides for all ages.

The traditional Pioneer Days bicycle giveaway continues with 24 pikes to be given away.  Free tickets for a chance at these bicycles will be distributed to K-6 children through all the Putnam County Schools by the principals.  There will also be several tricycles and scooters given away to children attending the Free Childrens Entertainment on Saturday of Pioneer.  This year, Mike Hemmelgarn - Ventriloquist will be the featured Childrens Entertainment.

PIONEER DAYS COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES DEADLINES

The 2008 Pioneer Days Committee is announcing various deadlines and information
on upcoming events to be held during the annual Pioneer Days celebration in Kalida, Ohio on Sept. 4-7,2008.

The very popular annual Battle of the Bands will take place during Pioneer Days on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007.
Applications from interested bands are being accepted now and can be sent to David Kallay, P.O. Box 477,Kalida, Ohio 45853.

The winning band will be featured on a future edition of X-107.5's radio program "Loud and Local". The application deadline is August 25th, however space is limited, therefore it is recommended you submit your application early, to be assured of a chance to participate.

The 2008 Pioneer Days Craft Show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 and there are still a few spaces available. This annual Craft Show is held under "The Big Tent" and offers 10' X 10' display booths on a concrete pad. As mentioned , there are just a few spaces left open as of this date. The Pioneer Days Chicken Wing Challenge takes place after the annual Pioneer Days parade on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008. Interested Barbecuers are invited to participate. Applications should be sent to Kalida Pioneer Days, P.O.Box 592,Kalida ,Ohio,45853. Again, space is limited, so sign up early.
